Along the lake, land is being cleared for the ball and soccer field. A sea wall is nearing completion when construction on the boat house will begin.

Pavilion completed. Kitchen, bathrooms functioning. Picnic tables installed. Two Awana Club campovers in tents already planned for May, as well as a church father-son campover.   A Christian school with students, teachers and parents plan a picnic day for fishing to celebrate the end of school in May.

Across the lake from my house, the lights around the camp property reflect on the water after dark, and my heart overflows with the joy of seeing the first phase nearly completed. The multi-purpose pavilion is finished and already various groups have used it. The lake and dam have been rebuilt and the ball field needs only to be graded after the fallen trees are mulched. The boat house is next on the agenda, then the Welcome/ retreat center. Pray with us that the camp will be an effective tool to bring children to the Lord.

As I write, I hear the sounds across the lake at the camp acreage – machinery grinding fallen trees, digging and widening the pond where most of the water activities will be located, and pushing soil to build up the dam nearby. The foundation for the first multi-purpose building will be poured this week. Scott Knight, a dear friend who is a building contractor, and member of my local church, Berean Baptist in Griffin, graciously shares his time and crew for the work. I praise God for my daughter Kanda’s ability and willingness to assist in drawing up plans to guide in future development. The church has “camp day” scheduled September 24, to help fund the various projects. Volunteers, interested in camp ministry, are planning to help construct needed buildings. Let me know if you are interested and able to help in some way. And please pray that God will be glorified through it all.

Berean Baptist church dedicated the acreage on the lake across from my home for its church camp. Now we begin work to clear, plan for sewers, drainage and septic locations, parking, and activity field. Pray that God will supply donors to fund this initial stage. It’s thrilling to think that Hank’s vision is going to become a reality.

Back in 1979, Hank and I began to develop the ABWE International Airbase. We scrimped and saved to buy sixty-six acres (We had to buy it all or none.) on which Hank and volunteers built the ABWE hangar and our home nearby Concord, GA.  From a swamp surrounded by wild woodland, Hank developed a 7-acre lake to use as a floatplane base to train missionary pilots. After retirement, Hank envisioned a camp ministry for children, young people, and families on the 25 acres across the lake from our home. Filling in for a missionary pilot in Amazonas, Brazil, Hank died unexpectedly in 2003 and was buried in the jungle town where he served 25 years of  the 45 years he spent in missionary aviation. The Lord burdened me to help Hank’s vision come to fruition.

All of the legal procedures and documents are complete now. I have donated that acreage to Berean Baptist Church to be developed into a Christian camp center. Our church faces hard work in clearing the property before actual construction can begin, but I believe that God is able to provide what we need and laborers to help do the work.  Georgia has mild winters. If God should prompt any of you “northerners” to come south to give a helping hand, please let me know.  I’ve several unused bedrooms in my house and it’s good fishing after work hours!
